In a rare case of humbleness the founder of Corona Beer Antonino Fernández Rodríguez has made everyone in his hometown a millionaire.
He died earlier this year aged 99, after founding the company in 1925. The billionaire thought to be worth £169 million – gifted the money to around 80 residents of Cerezales del Condado , Spain.The Corona beer founder grew up in poverty in the village from 1917 as the eleventh of 13 children and was forced to leave school aged 14.
Maximino Sanchez, who runs its bar, told Diario de León: ‘We never had any pesete (money) before. I don’t know, what we would have done without Antonino.’
Corona Extra is the second most imported bottled beer in the United States, with annual sales of £556million. The billionaire was well-known for his philanthropy in Spain and did a lot of work to support disabled young people.
He was apparently honoured by the late King of Spain Juan Carlos, reports the Lad Bible . He has also financed a cultural museum in his hometown which will be opened by a Spanish nonprofit organisation. Antonio also founded a company called Soltra, which is dedicated with finding jobs for disabled people.
