Friendship +Heartbreak +Love = #AeDilKiDiwali – a Firecracker!

The oh-so-much awaited Karan Johar film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anushka Sharma after much controversy, political storm and heated discussions, will bow in theatres tomorrow. Ranbir and Aishwarya’s pairing is driving the nation nuts, and their latest Filmfare cover together has definitely set the glossie (and our hearts) on fire! Karan Johar is back to direction and writing with ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ after a good four-year gap since his last winner with ‘Student of the Year’ (2012). The trailers and music promos have gone viral at a next level and the anticipation seems to be building by the day for the big release! Unfortunately, the film has been hit by the recent political situation between India and Pakistan. Since Fawad is part of the film, many states have banned the film, discouraging talent from across the border.

The story so far…

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a story about love – the shapes it takes, the ways it changes us and the exhilarating and often terrifying ride it takes us on. It is the journey of two characters, Alizeh and Ayan as they navigate life, love and heartbreak – often together and sometimes apart. Alizeh is a fiercely independent girl, still reeling from the effects of the collapse of her relationship with a former love. Ayan is a straight-edged, preppy boy, with no remarkable experience in love or heartbreak, but nurturing a hidden desire to sing. They meet one night in New York, and a mutually life-changing bond forms between them, that is ridden with humor, angst and a shared love of everything Bollywood. As they steer through life, their encounters and experiences shape their understanding of life, passion, love… and what it truly means to have a soulmate. How Alizeh and Ayan, two people who connected and separated over love, find closure in the romantic and unromantic forms the crux of the film.

ADHM written in just 9 days!

Present at the Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival, Karan told reporters: “I just took nine days to write the film. I was in New York and while walking around the streets, I was thinking about the pain a person goes through when one-sided love happens. I have gone through that pain. The story of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil talks about this side of a love story.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo!

The Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan is doing a cameo in the film and his role is an important one that leads things further. As per a report in TOI, Shah Rukh Khan plays the role of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s husband in the film who later dies and it is after that Ash gets closer to Ranbir Kapoor. Meanwhile Kaushal Kapoor revealed, “I play Anushka’s father in the film. In one of the scenes, when Ranbir tries to fix up Anushka and Fawad’s marriage, I lose my temper and throw them out of the house. As Ranbir persists that I agree to the marriage, I slap him,” reports Asian Age.

Quirky, sexy, heartfelt, sufi- all in ADHM album

The film is already on its way to becoming a box office hit; thanks to the buzz created by its music. The songs, especially the title song Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a chartbuster and is on everybody’s lips and song players! The chemistry between Pritam and Arijit Singh always works and has consistently churned out superhit songs.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: The album ends with the title track by Arijit Singh. This was the first song to come out, and received a lot of praise. Yes, it’s beautiful and romantic. I did find the video a little drag and depressing, with Ranbir behind the mike.

Cutiepie:  This is the cutest song of the film! Cutiepie is about how a girl ignores her best friends or boyfriend at her own wedding, and a lot more things. It’s actually a fun song and doesn’t really have to mean anything. It’s a great song to watch, with Ranbir Kapoor at his antics at Anushka Sharma’s wedding, and also a cool song just to listen to! Do watch how the song Cutiepie ends – it will bring a smile to your face!

The Breakup Song: Definitely the coolest break-up song ever! It’s quirky, fun, silly and peppy, in the Arijit Singh, Jonita Gandhi, Nakash Azis and Badshah. The video is as fun, and definitely makes you move it! Also Ranbir and Anushka are adorable together!

Channa Mereya: No doubt, the most trending song of the album, and there’s no surprise why. It’s absolutely soulful and heartbreakingly romantic. Arijit Singh lends his voice for this wedding song. Looking at the music video, we know that Ranbir Kapoor sings this to Anushka Sharma – his lady love – at her wedding. Although melodious and popular, again with meaningful lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, it is sad that this is the song that leads to the break-up of Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor) and Alizeh (Anushka Sharma) in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, with him showing her not one but two middle fingers! This is in frustration of his one-sided love

Bulleya: Yet another popular song that’s hit the chartbusters like a bomb! Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao are the singers of this energetic sufi-like track. Even among allegations of plagiarism from various sources, the music by Pritam Chakraborty and the lovely lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya have sustained. The Sufi and guitar fusion is awesome, and sung well by Amit Mishra and Shilpa Rao. Visually, it is a spectacle, telling the story of Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and their initial flirting – hugs and whipped cream et al – with the former reminding us of his singer avatar from his film Rockstar. But Bulleya also has Anushka Sharma.

What an amazing album! It’s definitely one of those that will stick with you and keep rocking the chartbusters long after the movie is a few years old. Short and so, so sweet. This is perhaps the biggest album of the year where every song is worth listening to on a repeat and a must on every Bollywood lover’s playlist.

The final word

Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ is the talk of the town. People can’t stop gushing about the lead actors and the music has definitely struck a chord with the audience. Watch out Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor recreating iconic scenes from cult movies in a few stills, the KKHH one is bound to make you feel nostalgic.
