Younger Santas for Elderly Kids
Christmas is all about Santa and Gifts for Children, even the elder ones sometimes expects and wishes to have surprise gifts but hides in maturity but silently pray for the well being of all and for the betterment of their own individual lives.
During the prime of our age and the height of celebration, we often avoid old and diseased people in our relation and society, as back dated and deprive them of celebrating the life, whatever is left. As with Christmas and New Year doing round many are busy planning their celebration schedule omitting the old ones to stay at home or old age homes.
Some youths shows us the way, how to celebrate, rather then hitting discs and partying around they celebrate the Christmas and New Year eve in a different way, they visit old age homes and celebrate Christmas with fun, food, song, music and dance, spreading happiness for everyone, which essentially is the message of the Christmas.
While speaking to Youthens News, One of the Founder, Arindam Das said “We are celebrating our Christmas with these elderly people for last 3 years, what we do here is the young people of our age normally enjoys their Christmas and new year in discs and partying, but we do is other way round, we come to meet this elderly people, those who are kept outside the society because of old age, with gifts and celebrate the day. Our wish is to bring some color in their black and white life and acknowledge their contribution to the society. We also celebrate, like our members dances with them, sing song with them, play games and have some interactive sessions with them and made them cut the Christmas cake to make them feel that they are part and parcel of our society and celebration is for all”.
A beautiful way to celebrate and welcome a new year with blessings and goodwill. It all started with a group of college goers in Kolkata in January 2012, that ALC came into existence. ALC means A Little Contribution, which is now a registered organisation and operating as an NGO working mainly for underprivileged children, old aged grandparents and the marginalized elderly in and around Kolkata and now have extended to Bangalore, with Aakash Basu another Founder, works there become the goodwill ambassador for the expansion of the good work in that part of the country.
“We started working for the less fortunate and downtrodden people of the society by saving our pocket money (bus fare to college and tiffin’s money), We celebrate Children’s Day in an orphanage each year, providing the children with clothes, food and a day of uninhibited fun. Holi is usually spent in old age homes like Navanir with the lonely elderly. We have also worked with slum dwelling children, by taking them for a trip to the zoo, organizing talent shows and providing them with study and writing materials. Now we are doing loads of work in Bangalore, with my office colleagues and friends we are spreading goodwill and positivity with whatever capacity we have” said another Founder of ALC, Aakash Basu from Bangalore.
The whole idea of doing good to society first came to the mind of Rohit Basu, then a College boy, who shared his ideas with his friends and ALC started working without any banner started with distribution of books and study session to the slum kids of Panchanantala in South Kolkata on their way to College.
Speaking to Youthens News, Rohit said “We work for underprivileged children, women, and also old aged people who are left in old-age homes by their children. We do these by accumulating our own savings from pocket money from tiffin or bus fare. We are an extremely young NGO with most of our members still studying, or recent graduates. We have big aspirations of working with society to make it a better place to live for those people who have even lost the zeal to fight for themselves. We are willing to speak up for anyone who deserves a place in this society and yet is being denied that place. We want to re-ignite the fire of goodness and the zeal in hearts of the youth of India to change the quality of society we live in. We have dreams of helping our society become a better place to live for everybody who has nobody else but GOD, we wish to be by their side”.
If we personally cannot do work for the society, we must encourage such beautiful initiatives by our younger ones with whatever support we can provide to them, details about the projects is available on Facebook Page/Group and website www.alittlecontribution.org.
