IIM Indore’s Industry Interface Office (IIO) in collaboration with the OM & QT Area conducted a Guest Talk on Supply Chain & Logistics Management Practices in Contemporary India on August 04, 2018. The objective of the guest talk was to enhance the knowledge about how the supply chain and logistics management have emerged as key to the development of India’s economy. The speakers for the talk included Mr. Amit Sharma, Procurement Head, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles; Dr. Mahendra Birhade, COO, Distribution Logistics Infrastructure Pvt Ltd; and Professor Saurabh Chandra, Faculty, IIM Indore.
The first talk was by Mr. Amit Sharma who spoke on the topic—‘Procurement at Daimler’. He discussed regarding the procurement and strategic sourcing at Daimler. He also discussed in detail about the paradigm shift from traditional procurement to strategic sourcing and then shared his views on how the strategic sourcing is creating an impact on the supply chain. He concluded his talk discussing about ‘Corporate Expectations for Students’.
The second talk was given by Dr. Mahendra Birhade which revolved around Evolution of Processes, IT application and Mechanized Handling System at DLI. Initially he discussed about the functioning and products and services offered at DLI. He then discussed in detail about the logistics industry in India and showed how IT is creating an impact on supply chain and logistics.
The last talk was by Professor Saurabh Chandra. He discussed whether supply chain practices restrain the growth of sustainable logistics solutions. He also provided insights from outbound automotive logistics in India.
The talk was followed by a Q&A session. The event turned out to be very fruitful by the mid-level and senior-level executives who attended the talk. The talk was also attended by the students and faculty members of IIM Indore.
