Golden globe happened last night was all about movies and starts. But there was one thing that turned most of the heads there, and it was Meryl Streep speech. Yes Meryl’s speech on Donald Trump, migrants and Hollywood was one of the best thing that happened at Beverly Hilton and it made many people cry.
The 67-year-old actress, who was collecting the Cecil B DeMille award, which honoured her contribution to the world of entertainment, had almost lost her voice but managed to find a few choice words for America’s incoming leader. She said the association was made of — Hollywood, foreigners and the press.
“But who are we and what is Hollywood, anyway? It is just a place with a bunch of people from other places,” Streep said, adding she was raised in New Jersey while Sarah Paulson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Ruth Negga, Viola Davis, Dev Patel and Ryan Reynolds were all born in different places.
“Where are their birth certificates? Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not arts,” she said.
The Globes were the last high-profile Hollywood event before Mr. Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, a transfer of power that many in the entertainment industry have bemoaned.
