Pune Test Day 1: Australia 256/9, Mitchell Starc Still Standing
Paceman Mitchell Starc has rescued his team from disaster with a spectacular display of hitting late on day one of the first Test.With the visitors teetering at 9-205 after squandering a great opening stand, Starc unloaded with three sixes and five boundaries to put on an unbeaten 51 for the last wicket with fellow bowler Josh Hazlewood (one). Australia have reached the close of play on 9-256, and with a chance to post some vital first-innings runs early on day two.
Earliar Australia skipper Steve Smith won a crucial toss and elected to bat first in the opening game of the four-Test series against India at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium.
Australian started on a good note as David Warner was the only wicket to fall in the first session. The left-handed batsman was cleaned up by pacer Umesh Yadav at 38. His partner Matt Renshaw was retired hurt as he complained of tummy bug.
