What Is That Unique Equipment Umpire Bruce Oxenford Is Wearing On His Hand!
Everyone might be thinking what is that device on Umpire Bruce Oxenford’s left arm. So this was not the first time he wore this type of device in a match. He had put this device on his hand earlier in World T20 this year. It also featured in the IPL.
Earlier this year his fellow Australian Umpire John Ward was struck on the head and hospitalised during a match in India. After that incident Oxenford decided to protect himself from unseen balls during the match.
He decided to make an equipment on his own to protect himself from them. Earlier he made an arm protector shaped like a semi-circle near his fist and continued into two-dimensional version of a pie near his forearm. The equipment seemed to be made of hard translucent fibre-plastic. He wear this equipment in his ‘non-signalling’ hand.
After the incident Australian Umpire Gerard Abood wore a helmet during the Big Bash Twenty20 tournament this year and all the umpires were provided with them at the World Twenty20 in India but none wore them.
Its only a matter of time before gets hit badly during the match. Our safety is in our hands and Brue Oxenford know this very well now.
