A young college going boy and the idea of start-ups. In this age of start up’s many experienced business persons dare such challenges to explore new ventures in the dilemma, whether they will succeed or not but for Sayan Chakraborty, a second year college going student from St.Xaviers College, Kolkata dare to think big by starting simple, solving relevant problems.
19 years young Sayan, who is one among the Eastern India’s youngest entrepreneurs for successfully running two initiatives one business and another one social, WTF! And SaChh respectively and also helps his father in his logistics business, has shown his capability by working hard and loud.
Lets start with the food startup- WTF! (Where’s The Food). For young Sayan, problem is not at all a problem; rather it’s an opportunity to find out solutions, while speaking to Youthens News, Sayan said, “We don’t call WTF a product. It is the solution to the problem we have been facing for years. WTF stands as a brand for a common man. The idea to start WTF came with, when someone work in an IT company or say any other company, earning a decent entry level salary as 15K to 20K, its not possible for that person to have a lunch from a branded outlet everyday at Rs.200, hence that person settles down for a roadside unhygienic stall. It is here where WTF comes to the scene. So what WTF! does is, it makes a lunch pack including 5 to 6 food items together as a pack and sells it at less than a Dollar around 68-70 INR”.
The model is very successful within few months of its launch, at present team WTF delivers foods in offices in Sector V, the IT hub of Kolkata, at the same time they are planning to launch a Food Car within 4 to 5 months, which is operated by battery (for the protection of the environment), as Sayan puts in and the customers would be able to track that where exactly the ‘WTF! MOVE’ is and how far there food is.
This way, a restaurant, for the first time, would come to the customers instead of the other way around.
His second initiative a Social Start Up – SaChh, which is constituted with the best of schools and college students of Kolkata, SaChh boasts to be the largest student startup of Kolkata consisting of more than 50 members and the number is increasing with every new day.
The idea behind starting of SaChh was to bring out children from darkness to the light of knowledge and self-confidence. Here the children of sex worker’s, street children and orphans bring out their imagination and creativity on canvas, which later forms the shape of greeting cards, bookmarkers and T-Shirt graffiti.
As of now SaChh has more than 30 such products of different art forms, which are sold in the outlets of Oxford and Story. As Sayan says, “with each shirt a customer buys, we give a shirt to the underprivileged. And whatever we earn from the products, goes to the betterment of the kids (taking them out for movies, dinners, drama shows, etc). We are trending over the Kolkata scene for the last few-months and the love and support from the city has over whelmed us. We are also coming up with a concept called the SACHH BOX, where each individual saves Rupees.5 everyday in their box and at the end of the month does something for the kids from the amount saved”.
Sayan Chakraborty have been nominated as most successful young entrepreneur by Indo- American Chamber of Commerce and was invited by RISE16 in Hong Kong for their world startup summit and has got an invitation from Oxford to study Business and Entrepreneurship this year. Young and innovative Sayan is an inspiration, for the youths of the country to once again realise the potential within each one of us, the only need is the zeal to work for the dream we have seen.
