The day celebrated on April 22, 2016 as’ EARTH DAY ‘it was first celebrated in 1970. We all have bless with the planet like earth, earth is the only planet which have mostly iron, oxygen, water, air ,soil and many more nature’s present. We should be thankful to the planet it also covered with green vegetation, blue-green seas, rivers, mountains and many more. This all I am sure you are aware of it but there are some amazing facts on earth that you should know on this big day. Let’s take a view.
The earth is not round
That’s true our earth is not round it is sphere due to its gravitational force it’s not a perfect circle.
The name ‘EARTH’ comes from the Anglo-Saxons
The name earth comes from the Anglo – Saxons word Erda, which refers to ‘ground’ or ‘soil’ and is thought to be 1,000 years old. It is the planet which is covered by 71% of water.
There are not 24 hours in a day
Yes! Confused but its right the actual time it takes the planet to rotate on its axis is 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds. This is what called sidereal day.
It had a twin planet named Theia
According to the scientists we come to know that, our planet earth had a twin planet named Theia, which was the size of mars and was 60 degree either in front or behind our big blue ball.
Mount Everest is not peak point on the earth
The mountain which is peak from the peaks and at 29,035ft. Above the sea level it’s pretty darn tall. Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is just 20,564ft. Above sea level, because it is on this ‘bump’ it is technically further away from the the earth’s center (i.e. ‘higher’) than Everest by 1.5 miles.
The coldest temperature: -128.6 F
The coldest place on earth is Antarctica (-100 degrees F ) the coldest spot was recorded on July 21, 1983, at Vostak Station in Antarctica.
