Indian IT professionals who are working in Singapore have been faced some crises on the Visas given to them for work in the country. During all the attention on the Visa is on US, there is a crisis on the Visas for IT professionals to work in Singapore. This caused the government to immediately stop the review of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) citing violation of the trade pact.

Indian companies are being advised to hire local employees. In this case, the companies are finding the possibilities of shutting down some of their work and starting their work exploring other countries. They are looking for relocating some of their work. HCL and TCS were among the first companies to go to Singapore. Later the companies like Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and L&T InfoTech etc also went there.

“This (visa problem) has been lingering for a while but since early-2016, visas are down to a trickle. All Indian companies have received communication on fair consideration, which basically means hiring local people,” Nasscom president R Chandrashekhar told TOI. An official who is working in the company said that our people are not getting a Visa for any practical purpose.

Due to the problems of the IT and banking sector, the Government of India has decided to stop the expansion of the items on which the import duty will be reduced till the concerns of the domestic industries are overcome. Significantly, there is lack of transparency about the capital requirements in IT and banking Sectors.

“They are doing it despite the CECA clearly stating that there will be no ENT or quotes on agreed services. This is a violation of the agreement,” said an Indian officer. In recent years, Singapore is emerging as an anti-nation country to give jobs to foreign professionals.
