ISRO launching its heaviest rocket

India is growing at a fast pace and every sector is now developing. Just like this, ISRO (Indian Space and Research Organization) is also pushing its limits and will launch its most powerful rocket in June. It is considered to be a ‘game changer’ mission for ISRO.

ISRO till now is capable of launching payloads of up to 2.2 tonne in the orbit and for anymore additional tonne it has to ask help from foreign launch facilities for a big fee. But this time ISRO is launching a heavier rocket, that is capable of transporting 4 tonne communication satellite. This is to reduce the international dependency for launching vehicles.

A successful launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III will be a big step towards self dependency of country’s space station. It is the most powerful launch vehicle built to lift heaviest Indian communication satellite and can hold 4 tonne of satellite, double the weight current GSLV-Mark-II can lift.

“GSLV Mark-III is our next launch. We are getting ready. All the systems are in Sriharikota. The integration is currently going on,” ISRO Chairman AS Kiran Kumar told reporters. “The whole process of assembling the various stages and then integrating the satellite into the heat shield, these activities are going on. First week of June is when we are targeting this launch,” he said.

The satellite is suppose to carry ka and ku-bands payload and Geostationary Radiation Spectrometer (GRASP) payload in order to study the nature of charged particles and influence of space radiations on other spacecrafts and electronic components. Advanced spacecraft technologies like bus subsystem experiment in electrical propulsion system. Indigenous li-ion battery and indigenous bus bars for power distribution would also employ among others.

The technology on lithium ion batteries developed by ISRO is good for space programme in terms of cost-effectiveness, but it requires the efforts of industry to develop it to reduce costs, Kiran Kumar said.
