Google hiring drivers to test its self-driving cars

If you are jobless and are a resident of Arizona then it’s time for you to do some work, that too none another, internet giant Google is offering you a job.

Google is looking for ‘local drivers’ to test its self-automated cars. They are hiring ‘vehicle safety specialists’ and operation associates who will be required to sit behind the wheels of its driverless cars and ready to intervene only if anything goes wrong.

“The role of test driver is so new that there isn’t a particular type of person that we look for,” said Brian Torcellini, head of operations of Google’s self-driving-car testing program. “We’ve hired people from all types of backgrounds, from English teachers to orbital welders.”

Google will pay successful applicants $20 per hour to be driven around for 6-8 hours a day, five days a week – but there is a catch. Applicants must have a clean driving record and be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

They will also be expected to keep their work confidential and will need to pass a number of in- and out-of-car training courses, the California-based company said in a statement.

Google says that drivers will also be required to submit their tests and experiences with the vehicle in the form of a daily report.
